Crunchyroll Launches PlayStation Subscriptions in Malaysia

Anime streaming platform Crunchyroll has officially expanded direct billing access to Malaysian audiences via Sony PlayStation consoles, launching in-app subscriptions through the PlayStation Media Hub on 27 October 2026. The integration allows PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 owners in Malaysia to subscribe to the service's Mega Fan tier directly for RM14.90 per month. The deployment streamlines access for console-first consumers, bundling ad-free anime streaming, offline downloads, concurrent multi-device playback, and Crunchyroll Game Vault mobile gaming perks directly onto a single PlayStation Store billing record.

Key Facts

What Does the RM14.90 Mega Fan Tier Include?

The Mega Fan subscription on PlayStation provides ad-free access to Crunchyroll's anime catalogue, concurrent streaming on up to four devices, and offline download support. Subscribers also receive access to new simulcast episodes shortly after their Japanese broadcast, alongside entry to the Crunchyroll Game Vault mobile library featuring more than 100 titles. The RM14.90 monthly Mega Fan plan on PlayStation includes ad-free anime viewing across four concurrent screens and access to more than 100 mobile games via the Crunchyroll Game Vault.

Specific anime titles highlighted in the local catalogue include Black Clover Season 2, Overgeared, and PSYREN. Crunchyroll notes that content availability across both the anime catalogue and the Game Vault roster remains subject to regional licensing restrictions.

How Do Users Subscribe Through PlayStation Consoles?

Users subscribe by downloading the Crunchyroll application from the PlayStation Store onto a PS4 or PS5 console. Once launched from the PlayStation Media Hub, users can initiate an available free trial or select the RM14.90 monthly Mega Fan plan directly. Activating a Crunchyroll subscription through PlayStation requires granting Sony permission to share account details to create or link an existing profile.

During setup, the console automatically generates a Crunchyroll account if an existing one is not detected. Users must assign a password if they intend to utilise their login credentials across separate supported devices outside the console ecosystem. Payment processes directly via the PlayStation Store wallet or linked payment methods.

What Are the Billing Restrictions and Limitations?

Subscribers cannot currently switch subscription tiers via the PlayStation interface because the service offers only the Mega Fan package on the console platform. Furthermore, users with existing active subscriptions billed through third parties must manually cancel their previous arrangements to avoid overlapping billing cycles. PlayStation does not support switching Crunchyroll subscription tiers, and users with existing outside billing must cancel previous plans manually to prevent duplicate charges.

What It Means for Malaysian Buyers

Malaysian anime consumers on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 gain a direct, local-currency billing pathway at RM14.90 per month, avoiding foreign currency conversion fees. However, because Crunchyroll currently limits console sign-ups exclusively to the Mega Fan tier, users looking for cheaper entry-level options cannot select alternative tiers through the console storefront at this time.

Common Questions

Which PlayStation consoles support direct Crunchyroll subscriptions?

Direct Crunchyroll subscriptions and app integration are supported on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles via the PlayStation Media Hub and PlayStation Store.

Can existing subscribers switch plans directly on their PlayStation?

No. Switching plans is not supported on PlayStation consoles because the Mega Fan tier at RM14.90 per month is currently the only plan offered through the platform.

Are Crunchyroll Game Vault games playable directly on PlayStation hardware?

No. The Crunchyroll Game Vault includes more than 100 anime-inspired mobile games, which require compatible mobile devices rather than running natively on PlayStation consoles.
